Frequently Asked Questions

If you haven't dropped by here for a while, check it out: the FAQs section is updated fairly often and there might be some new answers.

Q: What does [E] mean next to some of your links?
A: [E] = external link. I've decided to implement this symbol where I can, so that any user on this site knows that if they click on such a link, they will be taken to a page that is not on my site. Whilst I am not responsible for the content of other sites, I would not send my users knowingly to a link that I have not checked out beforehand and deemed to be safe.

Q: What's with the name?
A: It's from a line of an Audioslave [E] song, Bring Em Back Alive
[E]

Q: Who created the funky artwork?
A: That would be me (Los Havros), I'm so proud

Q: Who hosts your site?
A: That'd be 1&1, take a look at the bottom of this page

Q: Is your site standards compliant?
A: I sure hope so; each page is coded to XHTML 1.0 Transitional, renders perfectly in Firefox and (almost) IE 7, however the W3 Validator always manages to find some errors! The design is dictated by valid CSS. Again, see the bottom of this page.

Q: Why doesn't your site display properly in [insert name of either: very obscure, outdated, unsupported browser that not many people use]?
A: Because I don't have the time- it is simply impossible to make a site look the same in each browser as each browser tends to render web pages differently. I mean, this site is standards compliant (see above), so the problem isn't at our end...

Q: Ok, I repent. Which browser would you recommend?
A: Either Firefox 2.0 [E] or Internet Explorer 7 [E] as they are the 2 best browsers for market share and the implementation of rendering web pages in a standards compliant way. I would, however strongly recommend Firefox 2.0 as it is very fast at loading webpages, and it is very stable (hasn't crashed on me like IE 7 has done almost every day)

Q: Why do you use PNG images?
A: I hate GIFs and JPEGs as they are quite lossy file formats. PNG cuts down the size of images whilst retaining the quality I demand.

Q: What about review requests?
A: Contact me at loshavros [at] cityintheclouds.net with 'review request' in the header. Ta

Q: What about music review requests?
A: Contact MaSh at this address: mash [at] cityintheclouds.net with 'music review request' in the header. Many thanks

Q: What country are you based in?
A: We're from the UK, which is probably why you see this '£' in a few places and why some of the words look weird, like 'colour'. To be honest, I myself write from my point of view (in the UK), but if our content is suitable and can apply elsewhere, then it applies elsewhere! If you can read English, then you're good to go! However do remember that some phrases may be lost in translation.

Q: I spot a spelling mistake
A: That's a statement, not a question! Anyhow, If you do spot a spelling mistake (which won't be unsusual), then please let me know ASAP! I hate spelling mistakes as it makes it look like my writing is very poor. Send me the spelling mistake to webmaster [at] cityintheclouds.net with the word in question, which page it is on, and the rough location on the page.

Q: Why's the humour so 'bad' on this site?
A: That would probably be my (Adam) attempts at being funny. Please let me know if I am actually that bad. Send your insults to the usual address...

Q: Why are there adverts on this site?
A: Well, hosting a site like this costs a fair amount of money. I'm not aiming to make a profit, but any revenue that softens the blow is most welcome. This is so far the only way of doing so.

Q: What if I want more FAQs answered?
A: Then email me!

Q: Who am I talking to?
A: Adam

Well, nice to meet you
Same here, take care now!
